British and Irish Tug of War Championships 2017 Outdoor.

The 2017 Outdoor B&I Championships were hosted by the Scottish Tug of War Association in Paisley, Scotland on the 11th – 13th August.

The NITOWA had the largest representation in attendance for many years across all of the Senior Male weight classes and female team members which meant that this was the first occasion ever that the NITOWA has ever took part in the Senior Female and Mixed weight classes ensuring we now have a superb foundation to build on for the future.

The core teams in attendance were Bancran, with an array of experience and knowledge and Greenhill how have just been formed. Both teams were supported by the other clubs from throughout the association including Garvagh, Leo’s Boys, Castlederg YFC and Richhill.

The NITOWA had some excellent results with:

  1. Bronze 600 Kg SM Closed Championship
    1. 10 teams spilt into 2 groups that saw NI A, NI B, Eng B, Scot A and Scot B in one tight group. Some really hard pulling in the group saw:
    2. Eng B 8 Points (1st on weight)
    3. NI A 8 Points
    4. NI B 7 Points
    5. Scot A 4 Points
    6. Scot B 0 Points

In the semi-final NI A (Bracran) pulled against the winners of the other pool, Eng A in possible the hardest and tightest pull of the day. 1st end 6 min, 24 secs and the 2nd end, 5 min, 3 secs that saw Eng A go on to win before going on to win the final.
  2. Gold 560 Kg SM Club Championship
Day 2 started with 8 teams in the 560 Kg SM competition with Greenhill representing in 1 group.
The following teams moved through to the semi-final stage with:
    1. Greenhills (NI). V's. Felton (Eng)
    2. Ayrshire (Scot). V's. Llanboday (Wales)

The final saw Greenhill power up Aryshire in 2 straight ends to win the clubs first ever international competition.

    1. Greenhills (NI). V's. Felton (Eng)
    2. Lincoln (Eng). V's. Cornhill (Scot)

Great semi between Greenhills and Felton with the team from NI putting all into the first end that was re-centred after both teams were on 2 x cautions. Felton went on to win the next 2 ends.

Lincoln proved very strong in the our semi winning against Cornhill with easy before going on to dominate against Felton to take gold.
  4. Semi-final 560 Kg Mx Club Championship
11 teams in 2 groups saw the following move onto the semi-final stage with:
