The annual memorial competition was held in the Goodyear centre on Saturday 15th January 2011. Ballyhegan was the hosting club and had done a lot of preparority work in the run up to the competition. Imnvites had been sent to our near neighbours in the Irish Tug of War Association and we were please to see Clonmany B, Binnion and the very strong team from MountainView on the mats. Richhill, Ballyhegan and Finvoy also fielded teams and at 5pm the competition got under way. Ballyhegan had been very strong in our own Championships and were expected to do well in all of the competitions
Competition was good but unfortunately we ended up with only four teams in the 680 event. Ballyhegan, Mountainview and Clonmay were all hard contenders for each event. In the 640 memorial, event six teams lined up against one another with a hard fought tussel for the top four places. Mountainview, Clonmany, Ballyhegan and an ever improving Binnion team finished in the top four places. Mountainview and Ballyhegan on one mat whilst Clonmany met Binnion on the other. Mountainview and Clonmay saw off their respective opponents and in final Mountainview easily beat the Clonmany team by two straight pulls.
By the end of the evening Mountainview had cleaned up by winning all three weight categories beating Clonmany B in the 680 event and the 600 kgs event by beating Ballyhegan.
