The Northern Ireland contingent has all returned from the European Championships held in Assen, Holland over the past week-end. And in general I am pleased with the performances of our N Ireland teams.
Derryogue pulled in the 600kg before I arrived but all reports were of a great performance, finishing third in their group in a very tough section. No surprise that Garvagh pulled well in their group finishing fourth. All results are on either this site or the TWIF site and are well worth close study.
The closed competition started on Saturday and N Ireland were in the 600kg, we finished outside the top four jointly with Sweden and although some of our people were slightly disappointed I thought we performed exceptionally well, we have a fine bunch of well trained athletes fit to compete with the best on any day, we need a little more strength in depth and we can be very proud of ourselves and just to emphasize the fact our 640kg team put in a marvellous performance on the Sunday with great battles and long pulls against powerful opposition.
We are not big in numbers but apart from our pullers and coaches we had support from Cathal Mc Keever, [TWIF President ] Walter Milligan [ N. Ireland President ] the Donnelly family, Earnie Dickie, Jim Burns and of course myself. We were ably represented on the Judges front by Hugh Mc Fetridge and Derick Smit and not forgetting Davy Wilson.
Although we started the outdoor season slowly we finished on a high note with a few more teams at home this year.
