NORTHERN IRELAND 680KGS CHAMPIONSHIP - FIRST OF THE SEASON
Saturday night last saw the start of the Championship season for the local teams. They had started to gather at Walkers Barn from 5pm and many of them had weighed well ahead of the start time. Weight was definitely not a major problem with everyone weighing in closer to the 640 kgs than to the 680.
In the first end Ballyhegan and Country Club put on a good show with neither of them giving little away in the early stages. Country Club eventually took both ends. No rest for the wicked and Ballyhegan took to the rope again to meet their close neighbours from Richhill again having to admit defeat after some very strong pulling. Country Club and Richhill were in the mix again and this time is honours even as both went forward to the final.
This again proved to be a big affair but the Richhill team eventually wore their opponents down and took both ends to win their first Championship of the year at 680kgs. As stated before there was little in the teams either weight wise or in the strength and hard work put in on the mat. well done to all of the teams.
In the 620kgs event again none of the team had had any problems in weighing in. All of them easily made the weight limit with one of them just over the 600 mark.
Once again there was little to choose between any of the teams with everyone showing their prowess and skills to their full extent. This was a much better competition with Ballyhegan running out in top place closely followed by Richhill A, Country Club and Richhill B.
One pulls four etc etc and so back to the mat with Ballyhegan and Richhill A progressing to the final. This again was a good contest with neither side giving or expecting anything. Richhil once again proved their metal and took the 1st place against a very good Ballyhegan team.
640kgs event next week again at Walkers Barn with the weigh in commencing at 5pm and first pull at 6pm.
